Lucy had just finished using the restroom when she she came out and move to the mirror to check on herself.
"See who we got here" a voice came in from the door as the figure approached her
"Long time Lucy" she grinned
"Joyce?" Lucy asked surprised and a bit terrified
"What are you doing here?" She added
"Oh, is that a question I should answer?" She asked facing rose who just came in but she stood a bit close to the door to check on whoever is coming
"Well, the same thing you're doing here I guess"
It's been over thirty minutes now and Lucy is not yet back. Arthur checked his wristwatch again. 'Could anything be wrong with Lucy, didn't she know the way to the restroom or did she probably lost her way?' He thought as he made his way out of the party hurriedly.
"I wonder why you're this stubborn" Joyce asked as she move closer to Lucy, her expression has changed
"I think I've warned you enough to stay away from him but you refused and you still came here together as his date?" She screamed at her
"Listen Joyce, Arthur is not interested in you so why don't you stay back. Give up on him" Lucy replied a bit calm
"Oh really? See who's talking? Who are you? What do you have you poor thing and gold digger" she retorted while Lucy stood still, surprised and enraged
"Oh don't be surprise, I always wonder why you and Arthur get to be so close then I made my research and I get to know you and your wretched family has been hiding under Arthur's family's wealth, isn't that so?"
"How dare you?" Lucy slapped her aggressively
"What? Did you just hit me?" She asked as she held unto the side slapped
"Try saying any rubbish again and I'll give you hit you more" she retorted and Joyce raised her hand to slap her back but she held it
"You're dead today" Joyce cried out as she held unto her hair and started pulling it. Lucy tried getting her hands off her hair but she held tight unto it even with her face.
"Stop! stop!" rose screamed out unto them but they couldn't listen. Just then Arthur came in and quickly released Lucy from her. Joyce's side face is already swollen while Lucy is having a cut on her cheek, Joyce's nails must have probably cut her there.
Arthur stood for a while surprised by what has happened, he check on Joyce's swollen face and Lucy's cut, her hair is also rough. He knows that Joyce must have started this again, he glared at her for a while and move closer to her.
"You should let go of her henceforth. Moreover, this shouldn't repeat itself anywhere again, I thought you should be mature by now" he said aggressively but patiently. then took Lucy's hand and pace out, leaving Joyce sad and screaming.
Arthur and Lucy entered and they meet both Linda and Doris gisting and watching TV. Trying to hide the cut from them,Lucy swiftly greeted and without looking at them, she rushed upstairs to her room.
"Hey, what's wrong with her" Linda asked
."oh nothing, she forgot her phone at home and she said she's expecting an important call, that's what she rushed in to get" he lied
"An important call?" Doris asked
"Who could that be?" She added
"Uhmm... Maybe Fred, I think she said it's Fred" he stammered
"Oh really?"
"Brother and sister" Linda laughed
Arthur knew he shouldn't make excuse using cold as that was his initial thought and it'll only worsen the matter as both of them will rush in to check if she's alright, especially Linda.
"So is that why you came back early?" She asked
"Linda?" Doris called
"This is almost nine and you're talking about early"
"I will just take my leave now" he said as he scrambled upstairs
"Parties ends by nine at least" she whispered and Doris shook her head
Lucy sat outside beside the swimming pool as she keep her head up to the sky.
"Here you are" Arthur said as he approach her and sat beside her.
"I checked on you in your room but you were not there"
"Yeah, I came to watch the stars" She smile indefinitely
"Sad?" He asked
"Oh no" she laughed
Arthur knew Lucy is just faking it, he know her well enough to judge her mood this time around.
"Trying to be strong on your own right?" He asked
"Good job" he added as he brought out a plaster and applied it to the cut gently while Lucy winced in pain
"Sorry" he whispered under his breath
"You should take care okay?" He said as he made to leave
"Where are you going?" She asked
"Inside" he shrugged
"Leaving me alone here?" She frowned
He laughed "thought you said you wanna be strong on your own"
"When did I say that?" She muttered
"Then you should open up to me. Stop being discreet and remember, no lies" he signaled with her forefinger
She scoffed "of course I'm not"
He laughed too. For a while, they found themselves staring at each other. Arthur couldn't resist the feelings right now. He stared into her big brown eyeball which he's always referred to as doll's eyeball. It runs through his mind that he'd always find it difficult to feel for any other woman the same way he'd feel for her. He could find his head getting closer to hers as she shut her eyes, she look so adorable, he thought as her lip got enclosed in his.
