Fred dropped his phone slowly after his conversation with Iris' dad and his expression wasn't so pleasant.
"What happened? Who's the person?" Linda asked curiously
"It's Iris' Dad, he wanted to see her daughter"
"Oh God!" Doris exclaimed
"What do you tell him?"
"Seems he had receive the news, he said he'll be in Paris by tomorrow's morning"
"Oh jeez! This is getting out of hand. Really getting out of hand." Linda repeated and Fred nodded and took Iris' hand into his. He pulled it to his forehead before pecking it and started to stare at her face.
Arthur, Lucy and Cynthia came back the evening and Cynthia was all over, restless seeing Carl laid down silently and not opening his eyes. Lucy wanted to ask her that "had she not said she's over him and over him for good?" When she was so emotional with him but she knew it was not a good idea. It was funny though but it wasn't time to laugh.
Carl later woke up in the night and everybody was glad to see him open his eyes. Even Lucy could bet Fred was smiling happily about it, at least that'll be his first smile after this whole incident.
Carl woke up to see Cynthia beside him and though he was surprised, he chose to beg her for forgiveness first which met Cynthia smiling endlessly and she kissed him instead of replying. The whole room was met with laughter, clap and happiness but this doesn't last long when Fred got back to Iris and everybody remained calm again.
Carl and Fred had a few tête a tête the night and Linda and Doris went home to get their dinner as that has been their doing since, in the hospital. Arthur and Lucy, Cynthia remained in the hospital with them.
It was the next day in the morning and almost time to go pick Iris' dad from the hospital since he'd call Fred that he'll soon land.
"It's okay Fred, we're with you" Linda squeezed Fred's hand into hers lightly when she noticed the nervous look he had after his dropping Iris' dad's call.
Fred looked up and his eyes met with her Mom who nodded positively at him. He sighed and regain his stare at Iris.
Linda's phone rang and she picked it up and after a short discussion, she hung up the call and hurriedly and nervously, she turned to them.
"Sorry, I need to go now"
"What happened?" Doris asked startled
"I need to report in Anderson's hospital right now, I'll be back" she hurried with her words and left before any further questions.
Shortly after, Fred received the call from Mr Gold that they've arrived. He called on Arthur as they'd already planned to leave together. Fred wouldn't be able to talk much to them and he need someone. He told Arthur who nodded in agreement that he's ready and before they left, Fred bent low to Iris' head and kissed her on her forehead.
Fred was surprised when they got to the airport that it was not only Mr Gold that has come but the whole family which included Walker then it dawned on her that Walker must have been the one who gave Mr Gold his number cause they'd exchanged contacts the day they met.
The only conversion he had with Mr Gold was greeting, he couldn't bring himself to discuss anything with the man especially when his daughter's life is at risk because of him and when he wasn't even putting on a good or pleased expression. Fred didn't even bother exchanging discussion with Mrs Gold and Walker, he was not really in a good mood for that neither.
The drive to the hospital was rather a silent one till they entered the hospital's compound and pulled up. They'd already came down when they realized Linda and Anderson coming down from a car that had just pulled up before them.
"Oh my Arthur" Linda was the first to call when he realized them going in and he rushed over to them. They all halt expecting Linda's presence and Anderson who was also walking up to them.
Linda caught up to them heaving lightly. She faced Mr and Mrs Gold to heat up an amicable conversation with them which could help generate some friendliness between them at least, before they meet their daughter in that state.
"Hi" she tried putting on a smile which doesn't seem helping.
"Hi" Mr Gold replied rather abruptly and when Anderson approached them, he started to wrinkle his face and shook his head in a way that make it obvious that he's trying to recall something.
"Hi" Anderson started to greet but he stopped abruptly
"Mr Gold?"
"Oh my God, I said it. I've been trying to recall this, Mr Bernard's son, owner of High Fantasy?" He said happily, almost in a shout.
"Of course yes" Anderson laughed
"It's been a while, what are you doing in Paris and how has been the company?" He said as they exchanged an hearty handshake.
"Uhm.. Good good" he nodded
"And I'm here for my daughter, I'm sorry we don't really get to see each other afterwards, I'm really sorry for your dad's death" he said moodily
"It's okay it's okay" Anderson nodded sadly and Mrs Gold and Walker also decided to express their condolences. Mr Gold and Anderson got to know each other from university even though they were not in the same level then, some meetings used to bring them together as a course mate and afterwards Mr Gold after graduating worked in High Fantasy for sometimes before starting his company.
Lucy came out to the entrance as Mr Gold and Anderson were exchanging conversation and when she came out and saw Fred who was also looking at her, she started smiling suspiciously and Fred wondered what she's smiling about. He tried talking talking to her with body signal but it doesn't seems to be working as she just kept smiling more and more.
"What's wrong Lucy?" He asked her
"Oh you're back" she said as if startled and walked a bit forward
"Don't tell me you didn't see me here before" he frowned not finding anything funny
Lucy smiled broadly again and dipped her hands into her pants' pocket moving her body excitingly and this time, Fred knew she wasn't just smiling. She's so excited! And what's she excited about?
"Oh did I?" She giggled
"Lucy!" Fred called with a serious look and she chuckled again and leaned forward to him
"Iris is awake" she said almost in a whisper and Fred shook his head as if he's trying to believe.
"She's what?" He shouted in a way that diverted everybody's attention towards him
"She's awake!!!" She shouted this time around balling up her fist.
"Oh my God!" Linda screamed and rushed inside, following Fred who had already left and the Golds family followed.
TWO DAYS LATER
The Joy of having both Iris and Carl waking up finally had no end for the families. Mr Gold had reconcile with his daughter, he almost knelt to beg for her forgiveness and for the fact that he had ceased performing his responsibility as Dad years ago, Iris was happy about this, happy to have her Dad back and to have Fred's love.
Cynthia glued herself to Carl's side, she only left when it's necessary and Carl was really and so happy that she didn't give up on him, she came back.
Finally, Arthur and Lucy can freely start their relationship but Lucy was wise enough not to bring this up till Arthur could hold it no more that he confessed his love and asked her out.
Linda's hatred for Anderson was no longer useful and she was sorry to have being taking things wrong. She could openly and freely love her husband henceforth. No more youth's fantasy, time to erase Charles off her mind.
Finally, the great Doris resumed back to her florist's work. that's where she'd been giving and receiving her love for a long time now and it wasn't just her job, it was her hobby as she do love flowers and Anderson promised to built her a house but Linda wanted to take her back into her home where their sweet child memories lays and flow and there's nothing Doris would have like more than that.
The Gold's family had not leave yet after the two days, they wanted to see to their daughter's complete recovery before they set back to the United state.
Fred sat in his usual seat beside Iris as they continued chatting and laughing in their excited state with Lucy on the other side of the bed as the 'chat leader' to tell iris and to remind Fred of his funny and pathetic state when Iris was still on bed.
Fred cleared his throat, feeling shy and ashamed of being the main topic they'd been discussing of.
"I think that's okay Lucy" he almost mumbled
Iris tilted her head towards him and laughed " why? You're ashamed? "
"Sort of" he bent his head low and she chuckled
"And seriously, I have something to say" he said bringing his head up again
"What's that?" Iris arched a brow, still smiling
"Uhm" he gulped down looking nervous.
Who can believe the great Fred can be nervous? Lol
"Fred?" Iris called when he seems to be lost for words
He instantly looked into her eyes and shook his head
"I'm sorry I don't just know how to start this. This had been my dream and my promise to you that when you wake up"
Iris held his hands and shook it beaming happily "come on, I'm up now Fred. Fulfil your promise"
Fred withdrew his hands from her and slightly stood from the chair, retiring one of his knee to the floor and he dipped his hands out of his pocket. Gliding opened a shiny bright red small box which revealed a glittering ring, he said;
"Iris, please will you be my wife?"
Iris instantly clutched her hands to her mouth, letting the tears that stung to her eyes dazzled freely. She looked up to Lucy who was smiling endlessly and when she turned back to see Fred's expression, she knew he was getting more nervous.
"Yes, yes, yes," she bursted out laughing with the tears still in her eyes and Fred quickly slide the ring into her fingers and hugged her tightly
The whole scene was met with clap from all the families inside; Mr and Mrs Gold, Walker, Arthur, Carl, Cynthia, Linda, Doris and finally Lucy.
"I love you Iris" Fred whispered to her
"I love you too Fred" Iris replied tearily
