Falling Chapter 42

 Chapter 42

"Arthur!" Lucy exclaimed with her eyes almost popping out. Instantly, she scrolled back to the top to read the news and when she'd finished reading she started checking on all the pictures.

"It's Arthur" she said again almost in a whispered and a glimpse of excitement appeared on her face but quickly cleared off when she scroll down the pictures again.

"Is this Arthur's Dad?" She half frowned staring at Anderson's picture.
"And who is this? Her grandfather?" She asked rhetorically checking on Mr Ben's picture and when she checked on the next picture, the three of them were together and they seems really happy and smiling and Arthur wasn't left out.

"What the fuck? He was smiling all through" she muttered rechecking Arthur pictures again
"Has he forgotten me? Or maybe he doesn't like me after all, Does he have another person? Why is he not worried about me, about everything that are happening?" She paused, looking so dejected, worried and angry as she bit her lower lip
"Or maybe it's true, he has joined them, their bad gang and bad deeds and has forgotten about me" she annoyingly rushed over her statement and pulled her laptop close instantly.

Hours passed and she was still rolling on the bed sleeplessly. She checked the time and it was 'quarter to one'

"Jeez! I was feeling so tired and sleepy when we came back so why am I unable to sleep now?" She asked rhetorically knowing what she'd been thinking about is the reason she'd been unable to sleep. She took her second pillow and pressed it against her head.

"Sleep dumbass and stop thinking nonsense" she instructed herself and stayed with the pillow on her head for some minutes, lying as if already asleep.

"Shit! This is not working at all" she sighed and pulled off from her bed and out of her room.

The sitting room was already empty, definitely they'd gone to sleep. She sat on the two-seater's couch opposite the TV and put it on with the remote. She was still tuning the channel when a voice came from behind her.

"Still up by this time?" Fred queried surprisingly with his hands stuffed in his gold loose pant's pocket.

"Oh! Ehm... I think the sleep is not coming cause I took a nap in the afternoon" she lied

"Oh really?" He muttered and headed to the dinning room, Lucy had decided on a channel to watch and had started watching when Fred came back with a tumbler of water.

"So you think this is a good idea?" Fred said as he sat beside her and took a gulp of water from the tumbler

"What?" Lucy asked with a confused look

"You sitting here by this time to watch movie because you couldn't sleep"

"So what do you think I should do" she faced him pulling up one of her leg from the floor to the couch so she could concentrate on him. She was not interested in watching the TV after all? Maybe he could be of help in diverting her attention from thinking about Arthur.

"Many things but not watching TV" Fred smiled but she just frowned, he really doesn't know what's happening to her. When he saw she's not replying nor in the mood, he cleared his throat and his face turned serious

"What happened Lucy? What's wrong?" He asked and Lucy's expression quickly changed. He'd definitely suspected her mood.

"Nothing really" she winced and when he noticed him scowled she quickly added
"I'm just bothered about something"

"What is that?" He asked dropping the tumbler in his hand on the table

"It's about the plan" she said and Fred sighed, his frown eased.

"What about the plan?" he asked softly

"Though I don't know about it yet but there's one thing I'm sure of, you and I don't know the whole story concerning this issue, not even about dad's death, we only have suspected killers..."

"Not suspected killers Lucy. They're the real killers, I'm sure of that" he cut in

"Okay, they are." She sighed and continued
"But do you know why?"

Lucy's question caught Fred unguarded and his face suddenly tilted up to her. His expression holding the mixture of realization and confusion

"What do you mean by that?" He queried

"Do you know why they killed Dad?"

"So, does that mean the reason behind your sleeplessness is that you are thinking what we're doing is useless right? You think those people must have have a good point killing my Dad, our Dad?" He's becoming restless already

"No Fred. please just listen" she half yelled and Fred kept mute but not ease.
"You should just let me finish talking first. I was only thinking that before taking any step the whole story behind this incidents are supposed to be uncover to us, we're supposed to know everything, even the relevant ones and irrelevants, we need to know them" she was already raising her voice but it was still under control that it could only be heard in the living room

Fred sighed and rubbed her face with her palm, he was looking guilty already. He sighed again and rubbed his palms together.
  "I'm sorry Lucy, I know"

"But why didn't you let's get the story first?" She asked, her voice is getting calm and soft now

"Don't act dumb Lucy, we don't have anywhere we can get the story"

"Of course we do" she arched a brow and tilted her head

 "You mean?"

"We can get some story from Mom, she should actually know something about her husband's death and she was the one warning and telling me not to go outside the day the ambush issue happened"

Fred scoffed and shook his head "don't be stupid Lucy, Mom is staying out of all these and it's only between four people, Carl, iris, you and I and that's all"

"That's it Fred, too selfish. Try to listen to my opinion, it's not compulsory we let mom know about our plan. We just call her and let her know we'll be coming to Paris for a visit and when we get to her, we use style and code to make her tell us everything about our father's death, at least we supposed to know. If she'd been keeping it from us all these while thinking we were not that mature before, now we're grown up and mature enough to listen to the story, that's all" she paused and when Fred was not talking yet she added; "and I know she will want to share the story with somebody, she'd been keeping it to herself all these while and she'll be willing to pour out her mind to her 'now' understanding children"

Lucy waited a while for Fred to speak up but he doesn't, he just stood up and faced her.

"You should go back to bed now so you don't start sleeping throughout tomorrow" he said softly and made to go

"What about what I said? No reply?" She asked and he stopped and faced her

"Go to bed Lucy. We'll continue this tomorrow morning but that's if you wake up early" he replied and left

"Wake up early?" Lucy gasped and checked the time, it was just ten minutes to two and she's not the 'early rise's type. The last time she remembered waking up early, it was when she'd skipped her dinner angrily when Fred was refusing to explain things to her, she'd slept off around six and woke up by nine and now he's cunningly asking her to wake up earlier if she want her opinion to be considered the next day and possibly approved? That's so bad but still good, thanks to him, his presence with him for these minutes had already successfully even diverted her thought as she'd hoped and now she has a reason to go bed quick so her opinion could be considered and possibly approved.
