"Doris how's your health?" Brian asked trying to touch her leg
"I'm okay, how do you know I'm here" Doris asked disinterest about his question
"The news has spread a lot and I saw you in the newspaper likewise on the TV so I made some enquiries from my friends and luckily Daniel one of them happened to be your doctor "
"Are you the one who'd promise to help?" Fred asked
"Did he tell you that?" Brian laughed lightly and Lucy nodded
"Don't mind him, we've only had short conversation yesterday when I told him I'll be ready to help since I know who Doris is" he said and Fred frowned at him with an expression of_'who's he?'
"I'm sorry, I have something to attend to urgently but I'll come back so we can talk better" he said tickling his temple with his forefinger
"Doris, please take care of yourself" he added and left
"And who's that man?" Lucy asked
"I can't remember ever seeing him before"
"Yeah" Doris sighed
"He's just a friend" she said
"A friend like how?" Fred asked demanding for more explanation
"He was my classmate in highschool" she confessed
"Oh really?" Lucy said
"But I don't think that's all" Fred said suspiciously
"What?" Doris head tilted to him
"I mean there seems to be more to that" he explained and Lucy huffed and rolled her eyes
"Here he comes again" she murmured
"Well, nothing more just that Brian has asked me out several times then but I do turn him down, I mean I was dating Cris, your Dad"
"And do they...?"
"Oh my gosh, will you let the sleeping dog lies for goodness sake?" Lucy cuts in seeing he's coming with a question again
"Mom is on sickbed for crying out loud so let her rest" she rolled her eyes and Doris scoffed.
Just then, Doctor Daniel came in,
"Hi Mr Fred" he greeted, as he entered
"Hi Doc" Fred replied standing up as the doctor approached them
"Hello Mrs Doris" he greeted her with a broad smile
"Morning Doctor" Mrs Doris replied lightly, almost in a whisper
"I hope the pain has reduce now" he asked and she nodded
"I was told you went to get something when she woke up" he said facing Fred who just nodded
"Its okay she's going to be fine but she need to take something now, probably a warm tea first" he said and was about going when Fred asked him
"Okay, so what about the bill, can I pay it now?"
"Oh, don't worry that has been cleared" he beamed
"You mean?" Fred asked
"Brian has paid for it" he added and left
"Brian?" Doris said softly on bed but Fred doesn't seems to be pleased with it and Lucy noticed
"What again? Seems you don't like people helping you right?" Lucy asked Fred
"What is that?" Doris asked
"Mom you can't believe Fred turned the man's offer to help us down this morning, like seriously to give us shelter. Not all people are bad" she scowled
"And not all people are good" he completed but Doris only laughed at them
"Okay listen Fred, he's not an enemy okay? He's a friend"
"I don't care Mom"
"So where do you want us to live after I'm being discharged from this hospital" she asked sadly
"We can solve that later"
Doris cuts in and said "there's nothing to solve Fred. Brian was my good friend, and I know him very well, he's not a bad person"
"Lucy and I will soon be leaving so she could take her approaching board exam. Do you think you can manage alone with him?"
"Of course, that will be better than staying alone you know?" Doris smiled
"Yeah, at least you'll be able to confide in someone and be more safe" Lucy added
"Okay then" Fred winced
