Chapter 2
"Yes, I'm coming" she said walking up to the door as the door bell ring again
"Hey Mom" Lucy screamed as she hugged her Mom tightly
"Oh my baby, you guys didn't tell me you'd be coming today" she said facing Linda
"Surprise visit, I guess" Linda smiled as both of them embraced
"The surprise visit is not that good as well. Hey Arthur, how are you doing?" she called as she sighted him
"I'm fine ma'am" he replied
"Come on, come and have your seats," she said as they moved over to the sofa while she shut the door to join them.
The room is well furnished enough to human satisfaction but not as lucratively built as Linda's. Linda and Doris has been childhood and best friends but there's a long story behind that, I think as we move on we'll get to know.
"Hey what's up? How about your exam? I hope you guys did well" Doris asked
"Yes Mom" they chorused
"What do you take me for when I'm with them?, you think I'll be watching them playing around when they have final exam to write?" Linda boasted, she's fond of that though and everybody knows this
"Hm!" Doris sighed "Strict Madam" she added knowing well that Linda is as cool as anything, very gentle and this is one of the reason which made her parents succeeded in getting her married to someone who's a total stranger to her whereas she had someone she truly love and ready to settle down with. Did I say Arthur's father was a stranger to Linda before they get married? Well, yes. Linda and Anderson get to know each other or was introduced to each other rather, a week before their marriage and these was done for the Union of their business and family. Moreover, as at that time Linda's parents business was not going that well and the only solution was to merge it with a blossom one like Anderson's. Linda being the only child and daughter has no choice than to surrender herself to satisfy her parent.
"Mum, I can't even imagine I'm no more an high school student" Lucy said happily
"That's how it is my dear " Doris smile
"It's a total freedom, now we'll get to play our basketball with no 'Will you guys go inside now and read for your exam?'" He mimicked his Mom
Doris laughed while Linda tried hitting him but he evade it
"What will you guys like to eat?" Doris asked
"Well, we're not staying long, we're going out. I mean all of us" Linda gesticulated
"All of us?" Doris asked
"Yeah"
"No wonder you made a surprise visit," she rolled her eyes
" let me go get dress then" she replied as she hastened upstairs.
Few minutes later, she came down changed in a short pink simple gown
"Come on, see how you look like a teenager" Linda said while made a O turn and catwalk towards them.
"Are we ready? " she asked mockingly
"Seems you've been longing to go out all these while" Linda said
"Not really, just that being me alone in this house all these while. Boredom has been killing me" she confessed
"And you can't come and pay us visit? " Linda asked and Doris turned mute and stared at her with this expression, making her to remember what happened the last time she did
"Come on Doris, I told you it's okay now. Everything has being sorted out" Linda said pleadingly
"Mom, are we still going out today?" Arthur asked checking the time to make sure he wouldn't miss the birthday party he's to attend that night, he has made a lot of plans concerning the birthday party, tonight he'll be getting his car from her Mom's seizure. The car was bought for him by his Dad to mark his 15th birthday but Linda said he's too small to drive the car and owning a car is not what he needs right now so she kept the car with a promise to release it to him when he's 18th though she employed someone to start teaching him how to drive. Unfortunately, Arthur clocked 18 while preparing to write the high school final exam and his Mom said 'after the exam'.
"Of course, we are" she replied and they both set to go
"I'll meet you guys in the car so u can go" she said and both of them went out leaving only Doris and Linda in
"I'm sorry Doris" she whispered amidst tears as she brought out her handkerchief to wipe Doris's tears away
"It's okay" she replied and collected the handkerchief
